3月31日に開幕したMLBで、2013年World SeriesチャンピオンのBoston Red SoxはBaltimore OriolesのHome Opener（Oriole Park, Camden Yard, Baltimore, MD）で対戦した。ゲームは1-2でOriolesが第１戦に勝利し、中１日置いて４月2日には再びで第２戦（ナイトゲーム）を戦う。

Boston Red Soxは開幕戦翌日の４月１日にはホワイトハウスを訪問した。優勝チームは慣例としてホワイトハウスで大統領に面会できることになっている。大統領歓迎レセプションは午前11:35からホワイトハウスのSouth Loanで行われた。Baltimore からWashington DCはフリーウエイで１時間もかからないが、Red Soxはなかなかハードスケジュールである。

大統領面会特典は５つのMajor League ChampionとNCAAのNational Championも保有している。
